You don’t mention it at dinner. You haven’t mentioned it to anyone in months.

Carrying $10,000 or more in credit card, medical or personal loan debt is the kind of stress that follows you to bed and sits with you in every conversation you’d rather avoid. The silence around it makes it feel rarer than it is.

At Accredited Debt Relief, we evaluate people for debt relief and consolidation options, including loans, and the first conversation is about which one fits your situation. If our debt relief program is the fit, expect help with more than the math. We designed it with that weight in mind: we negotiate with your creditors to reduce your balances, and while that happens, you get access to support from weekly financial wellness group sessions, self-guided educational content and a private community of people working through the same thing.

What the Emotional Weight of Debt Looks Like

Poor sleep, a jolt of anxiety when an unknown number calls, a reflex to change the subject when money comes up: those reactions are familiar to a lot of people carrying debt. The lost sleep and the silence show up clearly in national survey data.

In the Motley Fool Money 2026 Financial Anxiety and Mental Health Survey of 2,000 U.S. adults:

51% said financial stress has caused poor sleep.

45% said it contributed to anxiety, depression or another mental health diagnosis.

33% said they are not comfortable discussing financial stress with friends or family.

Only 16% seek professional financial advice or counseling to cope.

Credit cards carry a special sting. Among people who carry debt in the same survey, 33% said credit card debt causes them the most stress, more than twice the share who pointed to a mortgage (14%) or medical debt (11%). A revolving balance that grows every month feels different from a loan that shrinks on schedule.

The bigger picture matches. In Northwestern Mutual’s 2025 Planning & Progress Study, a Harris Poll survey of 4,626 U.S. adults, 69% of Americans said financial uncertainty has made them feel depressed and anxious.

Put the two surveys side by side and a gap shows up. A third of people won’t talk about money stress with the people closest to them, and fewer than one in five ask a professional. That gap, stress with nowhere to put it, is where shame takes hold.

Why Shame Keeps You Stuck

Shame is the reason the statement gets closed so fast. It tells you the balance says something about who you are, so you hide it, and hiding it keeps you from doing anything about it.

Isolation is where shame does its worst work. That’s why our program includes weekly financial wellness sessions led by Certified Financial Therapists™. We negotiate with your creditors, and the sessions give you a room where the silence breaks.

What Support Looks Like Inside the Program

You may be picturing a phone rep who reads your balances back to you and calls it support. Inside the program, you have weekly group sessions on the calendar, educational content you can start any time, a community of other clients and a Client Success Team you can reach seven days a week.

Emotional and Educational Support

Clients get access to:

Weekly financial wellness group sessions with our in-house Certified Financial Therapists™

Self-guided financial wellness curriculum and educational content

A private, online community of people in the program

The group sessions are where you’ll hear from Certified Financial Therapists™. The courses let you work at your own pace. The community is the place to share your experiences, questions and concerns with people who will listen with understanding.

Day-to-Day Support

Our Client Success Team handles the practical side. Reach them by live chat, phone or email, and check your client dashboard or mobile app any time you want to see where your program stands.

Support is available seven days a week: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. If your worst money moments land at 9 p.m. on a Sunday, someone is there.

How the Program Works, and What It Costs

Cost is usually the first question: there are no upfront fees, and our fees are success-based.

Free consultation. You talk to a certified debt specialist about what you owe and what you’re dealing with.

Personalized debt review. We look at your accounts and your budget.

Custom program enrollment. You enroll in a plan that you can afford each month.

Dedicated ongoing support. The wellness sessions, educational courses, community and Client Success Team support described above are part of the program from this point on.

Debts resolved. We negotiate with your creditors to reduce what you owe, and clients typically become debt-free in as little as 24-48 months.

Who is Eligible

We can help people with $5,000 or more in eligible unsecured debt, totaled across accounts, and there’s no maximum. That means we won’t charge you a dime until we’ve successfully negotiated a resolution with a creditor, you’ve approved it and you’ve started making payments toward it. The fee is 15-25% of enrolled debt depending on your state, and your program deposits go into a dedicated account that you own. Our FAQ has a full breakdown of how our fees work.

That timing is part of how you tell a legitimate debt relief company from one to avoid. The Federal Trade Commission publishes rules on when debt relief companies can charge fees, and they set the same bar: no fee until a debt term has actually changed, you’ve agreed to it and you’ve made at least one payment under the new agreement. A company that asks for its fee before then is one to walk away from.

What Clients Typically Save

Clients save an average of $608 on eligible monthly payments, and many cut eligible monthly payments by 40% or more. That can be the difference between a payment that swallows the budget and one that leaves room to breathe.

Money is only part of what changes. In our survey of more than 10,000 program graduates, 92% said their program payments were affordable. Separately, 8 out of 10 surveyed would recommend Accredited Debt Relief to a friend or family member. Graduates also rated their financial habits 5.7 out of 10 before enrolling and 8.1 at graduation — a 42% improvement.

How to Tell Real Support From a Sales Pitch

Skepticism is healthy in this category. Some providers promise more than they deliver, and a kind voice on the phone doesn’t tell you much on its own. Check the record before you trust the pitch.

Ours is public:

Helping people since 2011

A+ Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau

Accredited by the Association for Consumer Debt Relief (ACDR)

IAPDA-certified debt specialists

1.3+ million people helped

$15+ billion in debt resolved

68,000+ five star reviews on Google, Trustpilot and more

Then apply one test to any provider, including us. If a company asks for its own fee before you receive an offer, before you’ve approved it and before you’ve made at least one payment under it, that’s a red flag under the FTC conditions above. We don’t earn our fee until all three have happened.

Talk to Someone Before You Open the Next Statement

You don’t have to open the next statement alone. Talk to a certified debt specialist about what you owe and what’s been weighing on you. The consultation is free and comes with no obligation; you’ll leave it knowing what your options are.

Get a free, personalized savings estimate, and say the number out loud to someone who’s heard it before.

This content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute financial, legal, or tax advice. Individual results may vary.

You open the statement, glance at the balance, and close it before the interest line even loads.
