Get To Know Nick C.

Nick lives in Tennessee and has spent most of his working life in warehouses and factories. He’s the dad of two grown sons, and he’s now back in college after almost 20 years away, working toward a bachelor’s degree in social work.

Nick C., an Accredited Debt Relief client from Tennessee, who went back to college to study social work

I can do things besides just work and pay bills. I can live life and do things with the people that I love. I can go back to school and do things that I enjoy doing.

How the Debt Began

Nick’s debt started after his divorce, about 15 years before he reached out for help. Two incomes became one, and every bill landed on him.

You slowly start taking loans to pay those bills and then you get credit cards to buy groceries. It just kind of starts building and building before you realize it’s kind of out of control.

When Overtime Stopped Being Enough

Nick worked all the overtime he could. He was paying close to $400 a month toward credit cards and personal loans, before car payments, food or rent.

I knew it was time to get help when I had just felt like I had taken too many loans and I couldn’t go and ask for another loan when all I was doing was taking a loan to pay another loan.

He started searching online and read reviews until he found a company that felt legitimate.

What the First Call Changed

Nick didn’t expect a quick fix. He knew the process would take time, and his specialist told him up front that creditors might still contact him early on. Some did.

My Consolidation Specialist, he was just real with me. He didn’t try to sell me on anything and he was just upfront about the way everything worked, what to expect, and that made me feel good to know that there was a plan that was going to be put into place to help me and there was comfort in that.

His monthly payments on eligible accounts went from $386 to $291. For Nick it made a big difference. His old payments weren’t moving his balances, and the new ones come with a 41-month finish line instead of the 17 to 20 years he estimated it would take on his own.

Having that extra money just, it gave me a little bit of breathing room just to make it through each month.

What’s Next for Nick

Today Nick can walk into a grocery store without a tight budget mapped out first, and he can say yes when friends want to get together. He plans to finish his degree and work in social work.

Finishing my school, I’ll be able to actually help other people instead of just working on helping myself get out of debt, I’ll be able to help others and that’s really what I want to do.

If you’re taking out one loan to cover another, a free consultation is an introduction: a chance to talk through your situation and the options available in your state.

If you’re where I was at a couple of years ago, don’t wait. Take the next step to get something done because you won’t regret it.
